Look who’s coming to Peaks – it’s Lucy from Charm About You! Lucy is coming to us from Manchester, UK, and we couldn’t be happier! When not doing school runs & the usual life with children, Lucy can be found teaching at a local shop not far away in Poynton (shout out to Patchfinders!), and doing all manner of quilting techniques.
She’s coming to introduce us to the art of Fussy Cutting. While this may strike fear in the hearts of some, Lucy assures me that this is totally not scary in the least! She’s going to show us a variety of ways to use fussy cutting, starting with this cute Polaroid block.
I thought this might also be a good opportunity to show everyone how to print on fabric with your inkjet printer. These techniques together will help personalise your own Polaroid block. As always, Quilt Fairy Gina & I will be happy to help you in any way.
Need a bit more encouragement? Your own Secret Sister will be there to cheer you on! You’ll be one too and we’ll have lots of ideas to help you help encourage each other. Part of the fun is the secrecy!
Other fun for the weekend:
Finished Up Lottery: You can bring as many projects as you like to work on. Choose two (2) that you will commit to make a finish over the weekend. A finish could be a cushion cover, a quilt top, binding on a quilt, a finished quilt, etc. A finished block won’t cut it! 🙂 During Show ‘n Tell on Friday Night, you’ll indicate which ones you intend to finish. Once you finish each of the projects, your name will be thrown into the Finished Up Lottery with the chance to win your choice of batting or a set of 4 large spools of thread, any weight.
Mystery Project Stash Attack! This optional mini-project will be a chance to raid the BNQ Stash to do a mini project that shouldn’t take more than an hour. Note that this cannot be one of the two Finishes for the Finished Up Lottery! 😉
Secret Sister: You’ll be assigned another person in the group to be their Secret Sister. The objective is to provide quiet, “secret” encouragement, in the form of very small gifts or notes, throughout the weekend. We’ll provide lots of ideas to get you started. Secret Sisters will be revealed on Sunday at lunchtime.
Machine Servicing: On Thursday, I will be performing Basic Machine servicing (at special Peaks pricing of chf 50) to all who wish to have a little “tune-up” before getting those needles flying!

Clean Machine Tutorial
Thursday evening, 15 mins
If you didn’t have the Basic Machine Maintenance, this short tutorial is to give your machine a good, quick cleaning in preparation for the Quilting Marathon over the weekend. We will cover very basic machine maintenance and clear the cobwebs before getting down to the reason we’re here!
Quilting & Piecing 101 (optional)
Thursday evening, 30 minutes
Developed for beginner, this will be a short introduction to piecing basics, including quick cut methods with rotary cutters, along with highlighting the basic quilting vocabulary, fabric selection, block construction, quilt styles & quilt finishing options. Optional and open to all levels.
Printing on Fabric Friday, 3 hours
Friday morning, 3 hours
I’ll be showing you a technique I often use to print my photos onto fabric and give you the opportunity to do some printing of your own. I will provide a pre-treated, neutral coloured fabric sheet (A4 size) for each person and walk you through the process. We can scan one of your photos or another image or artwork that you like to try out this technique.
What will you need to bring? All the bits & pieces you’ll need to finish some of your projects!
Saturday Fussy Cutting Snapshots
Saturday morning, 3 hours
Lucy is going to lead us in the FUN-damentals of fussy cutting and teach us how to make the Polaroid Block. This simple block opens up so many possibilities with our printing on fabric from Friday and Lucy’s fussy cutting techniques! More details and supply list will be provided as soon as possible.
Afternoons are free time. You can work on your PhD’s/UFOs/PIGs, start a new project, go for a walk, have a massage or a mani-pedi. It’s up to you. If there is a specific technique you’d like to learn, we can organise a crash course, one-to-one or with others who are interested, during one of the afternoons. These crash courses might include Making a key fob, Foundation Piecing, Folded Fabric Flowers, etc. Let me know what you want to learn!
