Had a lovely Easter yesterday with N°2 Son and hi Had a lovely Easter yesterday with N°2 Son and his sweet young lady, Miss E. I made rosemary bread (no photo, we ate it 😁) and lemon mascarpone mousse with fresh raspberries & chocolate shavings. Today, I made lemon mascarpone cake with the leftovers. There was homemade lemon curd too. Yumsk!! #easterbaking #newrecipes #lemontasteslikespring

#igquiltfest2021day25 - Whoops! - This is the Venu #igquiltfest2021day25 - Whoops! - This is the Venus Project, a quilt I was motivated to do about 8 years ago. I'd been a longarmer for about 7 years at that point and I decided to enter a challenge of how to use a special panel created by @angelafmq. The brief was use the modern panel in something. When I think Modern, I think Art. When I think Art, my mind goes to my favourite statue, Venus de Milo.

Now, modern is not my usual aesthetic. At. All. However, I was trying to push my personal boundaries. I enlisted my artist daughter's help to learn about perspective and gave it a shot. There was much swearing at my own design of inset seams for the background and trying to figure how to get that drape just right. But I got it done. Venus is actually a separate piece, quilted and attached to give that 3D effect.

I has another quilt pinned on the longarm so I decided to use my DSM to quilt it. I realised very quickly just WHY I'd gotten a longarm. More swearing ensued as I finished it on the DSM.

I know that hindsight is 20/20 and I don't often take stitches out but when the competition was over, I was really unhappy with the quilt. It was big but I couldn't hang it because something about it was off, though I couldn't have told you why. So I put it away. Looking back now, I understand that the balance wasn't right, on many levels. I came across it a couple of years ago and since I'd gained more experience, I realised what was wrong. It needed a darker outer border and more quilting, to start. So Jack (the seam ripper) & I got well acquainted as I unpicked & removed the binding to add a dark plum border. I'm still unpicking the quilting because I don't feel it's doing the piece justice. It will likely continue to be a WiP for a while but at least I'm a bit happier with the progress. 😁 #thevenusproject #jack&venus #expandingbounderies
#igquiltfest2021day119 - Thread - I ❤️ Aurifil #igquiltfest2021day119 - Thread - I ❤️ Aurifil! This is 3/4ths of my wall of thread. My son says I have a thread problem. I don't see it. 🤣🤣 It is almost my 8 year anniversary as an Aurifil Dealer and over that time, I've become the only rep in Switzerland who carries all of the 270 colours, in all of the weights, including the Brillo and Aurifloss lines. I've had some interesting orders (recently from Israel) though most are in Switzerland and the EU. It's is the only thread I want to use now, for everything.

#igquiltfest2021day17 - Quilts of Significance - T #igquiltfest2021day17 - Quilts of Significance - This was a quilt that I made for my lovely firstborn as she went to university, aptly named The Uni Quilt. It is a larger version of a quilt pattern by @linda_j_hahn, the Simplified New York Beauty. It taught me so much and took me someplace I never expected. Finished in 2015, with the help of my mother, this quilt went on to hang in the Fall Paducah show in 2017. At that show, I met @bethanne.whitearbor, @marilyn.badger, @jennymsqc, other members of my APQS family @geobeth98, @sfusco258, and so many other wonderfully creative people. I'm thankful my daughter let me borrow it, but it's greatest significance is that I feel like she can always have a hug, even though we are so far apart. It's not the same as being there but I hope it brings her comfort. #quiltsarehugs #theuniquilt #paducahquiltshow #apqsrocks
#igquiltfest2021day15 - Best Tip Ever - One I lear #igquiltfest2021day15 - Best Tip Ever - One I learned a long time ago and I think I tell every new quilter I meet. Clean. Your. Machine. I have been cleaning and repairing machines for a long while. I don't know when I did my first one but over the years, I'm still surprised at the number of people who say they didn't know they could clean past the bobbin area. That little metal plate comes off! Fluff caught in between feed dogs becomes a tiny little blanket of felt! And don't get me started on the things I find in a machine! I think that 60% of the machine repairs I do are a result of a lack of cleaning out the dust bunnies. It can affect the tension, the stitch length, and even the position of the needle. And my favourite tool to clean around the bobbin/needle area is a pipe cleaner! Brushes are good but I think just plain pipe cleaners work best because they can be snaked in behind parts to get hard to reach bits. So grab your screwdriver and get that needle plate off at least once every couple of months. Just like a car, get your lovely machines serviced once a year. No excuses!! 🥰🥰 #machinelove #idomachinerepairs
Showcase Sunday - What's been under the Busy Needl Showcase Sunday - What's been under the Busy Needle

This is another sweet quilt by Judith. The Wrought Iron quilting design suits the lovely William Morris fabrics. It doesn't show very well on the backing but still gives nice texture.

#igquiltfest2021day14 - Recent Finish - I don't fi #igquiltfest2021day14 - Recent Finish - I don't finish many things for myself but this has been my hand-quilting project for the last year or so, just worked on at Monday Night Quilting. Finally has a binding on it so it can be lightly used, as the top is an antique from the early 1900s, in fantastic state. It was a pleasure to work on the simple quilting but now I have to find something else to take on Mondays. 🤣
